Participants in the Community based-learning, which was held at An-Najah National University for two days, agreed upon the importance of community based-learning in building university students’ capacities, preparing them to join the labour market. The Conference displayed distinct models of higher education aimed at the educational process with the community.

The conferees also agreed:

  1.  Community based-learning should integrate local community projects, which students and teachers implement for the sake of community, and at the same time, teachers cover the theoretical aspects of the course.
  2. The necessity to change evaluation methods of community based-learning, through acknowledging the idea that examinations are not the only evaluation tool and that student should take at least one of these courses in each academic programme during their university study.
  3. The present existence of difficulties and obstacles related to students and their abilities from one side, or readiness or lack, in managing courses based on projects. Despite the realisation and acknowledgement of these difficulties, the delegates recommended working on the sustainability of community based-learning style as a modern important method to build students capacities, prepare them for labour market, and applying it on other academic programmes within An-Najah and Palestinian universities.

The second day of the conference included a presentation of models of community based-learning for the participating students and teachers.
