At press conference, President Hamdallah speaks of An-Najah's achievements
President Rami Hamdallah gave a press conference today, and dozens of local media attended the event. President Hamdallah spoke about the recent developments at An-Najah National University. He introduced the achievements the University has made in the last academic year in many aspects of academic programs, vocational training projects, scientific research, and social services.
"Over the last year, An-Najah National University has achieved some impressive successes and achievements," Prof. Hamdallah said.
At the press conference, President Hamdallah also emphasized An-Najah's leading role in the larger community of Nablus and the of north of West Bank region. "The interaction with the local community is a key part of the University's responsibility to create a better life and deliver an excellent education for the Palestinian people," he said.
President Hamdallah emphasized An-Najah's plans in the international levels. He said that extending An-Najah's relations to the world community, and promoting academic role of An-Najah in the international arena are among the main programs".
President Hamdallah noted that An-Najah has about 16,000 students, 66 BA programs, 35 MA programs and 1 PhD program in Chemistry. The University has reputation for its Career Center, 16 scientific centers, and the language programs.
President Hamdallah explained the current accreditation of the Faculty of Human Medicine and Faculty of Physical Education and the project for the construction of a teaching hospital in the city of Nablus. In addition to the academic programs, An-Najah is currently working on the construction of the Faculty of Physical Education with its impressive sport complex and the University's Library both are located at the University's New Campus in the West of Nablus. The University is also seeking funding for the construction of two new faculties: Nursing and Optometry.
"In the interest of promoting democracy and freedom of speech, the University is supporting student union elections and the election will happen some time early this Fall," Prof Hamdallah announced.President Hamdallah strongly urged the Palestinian government of Salam Fayad and international community of donors to come through on their promises and to fulfill their obligations to higher education sector in West Bank and Gaza Strip. "We reaffirm our commitment to remain a leading University in the country and a center for academic excellence in Palestine," President Hamdallah added.
