Applying smart phone applications
On Friday 9 May An-Najah National University participated in a Training the Trainers Workshop on smart phone apps (Android and iOS).
Mr. Khaled Barham, Director of the Korean- Palestinian IT Institute of Excellence and Project Coordinator, said that these workshops aimed at providing the University faculty and students with scientific and practical professional skills in the field of smart phone apps, which are important to the telecommunication sector, both locally and internationally.
Mr. Barham also added that:
“An-Najah National University took the initiative to train a number of academic and administrative staff. This step aims at enriching the academic curricula to make a difference in this field. These workshops directly enhance the University alumni and increase their opportunities in getting jobs in local and international markets.”
Mr. Barham emphasised the obvious advantages of these trainings, giving the alumni and students the skills to develop and pioneer projects that advance and develop the national economy. The (Android and iOs) training workshop has appealed to many students in the summer term.
Mr. Barham, on behalf of An-Najah, thanked the USAID and Compete Project for providing these quality workshops. He also expressed his gratitude to the trainers and trainees, commending their commitment and impressive training outcomes.

- The workshop is funded by the “Compete” Project and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
- The workshop took place at Al-Quds University, Abu Dis, and was attended by: Mr. Ghassan Al-Jamal, USAID Project Manager; and Mrs. Ruba Jarrar, ICT Programmes Development Specialist at USAID, Compete Project. The training lasted for five weeks for a total of 120 hours, beginning on the 10 April.
- An-Najah’s team consisted of: Dr. Ahmad Shredeh; Mr. Maher Abu Baker; Mr. Mohammad Dweikat; Mr. Mohammad Sharaf; Mr. Mohannad Al-Jabi; Mr. Ahmad Abu Alia; Mr. Ibrahim Ameriah; Mr. Ghaith Ihbeisheh; Mrs. Duaa Ewisi; Mrs. Ruba Awayis; Mrs. Heba Samaro; Mrs. Yamama Al-Shakaa; Mrs. Maysoun Ashayer; and Tasneem Attari.
- The other participating universities were: the Arab American University, Jenin; Al-Quds University, Abu Dis; and the Palestine Polytechnic University.
- USAID’s Compete Project is a five year programme launched in mid-2012 that builds on the work of previous private-sector USAID projects in the West Bank and Gaza. Working closely with local partners and stakeholders, USAID Compete aims to strengthen the competitiveness and export potential of key sectors in the Palestinian economy with a particular focus on accelerated growth in the Agriculture, Tourism, ICT and Stone & Marble industries.
