Announcing the Students Council's election for the academic year of 2008/2009
Mr. Musa Abu Deya, Dean of the Students Affairs at the University, announced today that Fateh Youth Movement won 58 seats out of 81seats in the Students Council's elections for the academic year of 2008/2009.
The announcement came in front of a mass of thousands of the University’s students at the University's Old Campus in the city of Nablus.The Fateh Youth Movement got 58 seats, while the Wattan Bloc (a collation of the Progressive and Democratic Fronts and the People’s Party got 10 seats, the Islamic Jama’a (Islamic Jihad) got 8 seats, Indepdendence Bloc of Fida Party got 2 seats, and the Palestinian Initiative Group got 3 seats. 11,633 students out of 19,000, who have the right to vote, headed to vote for members of the Students Council.
The percentage of votes reached %59.4. In previous years the percentage of votes had reached about 80% with the participation of the Islamic Block in the Students Council's elections. 54 voting stations were distributed around the four University's four campuses in the cities of Nablus and Tulkram and were opened at 8:00 am and closed at 3:00 pm.
