The Department of Television and Radio at the Faculty of Economics and Human Sciences organised the 11th Documentary Film Festival. The 13 documentaries tackled different themes that highlight social Palestinian issues and provide possible solutions.

The 11th Festival took place at the Zaffer Al-Masri Auditorium on An-Najah’s old campus and showcased 13 documentaries from student filmmakers. The festival was attended by a number of university officials, namely, Prof. Sami Jaber, Academic VP, Prof. Tareq Hajj Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences, Mrs. Sanaa Assi representative of the UNFPA, Mrs. Asmaa Masri, Director of the Woman’s Corner at the Nablus Municipality, in addition to the heads and instructors and students of the Media Departments, Public Relations, Journalism and TV and Radio, including the students who produced the documentaries.

Both Prof. Jaber and Dr.Hajj spoke of the importance of media and its impact upon the community. They also stressed the necessity of encouraging and supporting youth leadership for quality production.

Mrs. Assi applauded the achievements of the Media students in all aspects especially documentary film production, which was supported by Mrs. Masri who thanked them for the support their work provides to women and society in general.

A film titled “Bas Bekaffi” (Enough!) won first place, as well as four other films: “Sahwa” (Awakening), “Falastinin Mahdoum “(Cute Palestinian), “Al-Bahth an al kathib “ (Searching for Lies ) and “Khoutwat halema” (Dreamy steps).

The festival also included the screening of films produced by media students from previous years, the most important of which was “Ana mish sora” (I am not a picture) which won many regional awards, such as the Kharbika Festival award in Morocco, the National Journalists Without Borders awards, and came second place in the Al-Jazeera Documentary Award for best documentary films.

The attendants at the festival expressed their delight in what the media students have achieved which revealed maturity in their thinking and constant improvement. At the end of the festival, the participating students thanked the organising and funding parties (UNFPA and The Woman’s Corner at the Municipality of Nablus) for their efforts to serve and facilitate the educational process for the students of the Faculty of Media.
