An-Najah Workshop on Soil Preservation and Management

A workshop was recently organized at An-Najah by the Water and Environmental Studies Institute (WESI), in cooperation with the Agricultural Relief Committee. the workshop comes as part of the Public Awareness Program, a project which is being implemented in collaboration with the UNDP (United Nations Development Program) and which aims to help the Palestinian people and the Ministry of Agriculture.
The workshop was attended by a number of lecturers from the Faculty of Agriculture, as well as a number of agricultural engineers and people working in the field. The participants discussed the benefits that soil preservation and management can bring to agricultural production and the means of achieving these, as well as the factors that have a negative effect on the soil. They also discussed local experiences of methods used to stop soil erosion.
The workshop was opened by Dr. Zakariya Salawdeh, the general manager of projects in the Ministry of Agriculture. He started by giving a brief introduction to the Public Awareness Program and was followed by Engineer Buthayna Mazeed who described the goals of the project and its various stages. Several working papers about agricultural topics were presented. Engineer Hussam Al-Saeed from the Agricultural Relief Committee brought the workshop to a close by thanking the university and all those involved in the project.
