An-Najah University Participates in the Education for Employment Program at the University of Michigan and in a Workshop in London
Dr, Husam Arman, Head of the Industrial Engineering Department at An-Najah University, participated in the Education for Employment program which was organized at the University of Michigan in the United States and lasted for approximately six months. The Program was funded by the U.S. Department of State and witnessed the participation of four countries from the Middle East and North Africa which included: Palestine, Egypt, Morocco and Algeria.
The Program is considered the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa and included experts and professionals in the fields of development, employment guidance, experts who deal with school and university students, as well as those who are responsible of organizing training programs for graduates and the unemployed.
The Program aimed to shed light on the educational situation and the orientation or guidance methods that are used at the educational institutions in the different states in general and in the State of Michigan in particular. The participants in the Program also visited some of the ministries that specialize in the field of youth employment, in addition to highlighting the strategies of education and orientation there.
Dr. Arman mentioned that the Program included further activities. The participants spent one week in Washington D.C. where they participated in the Second Annual Conference in which more than 250 participants from different countries participated. He also mentioned that the participants headed to Michigan where they visited two organizations on a daily basis over the last three weeks of their participation.
Beside his participation in the Education for Employment Program in the US Dr. Arman also participated in a workshop for a network of experts in the field of technology management which was hosted by BAE Systems in one of its headquarters located in London, UK. Many academics from the University of Cambridge and Loughborough University in the UK, in addition to experts from BAE Systems participated in the event.
Commenting on this participation, Prof. Rami Hamdallah, President of An-Najah, said the University focuses on joining such internationally significant events through its dedicated and unique staff that have the ability to compete internationally.
Dr. Nabil Dmaidi, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at An-Najah, said that Dr. Arman’s participation was of substantial value and significance since the experience he gained through his participation can be used to develop education and employment in Palestine.
