An-Najah University maintained its rank and continued to achieve more according to the Ranking Web of World Universities (Webometrics) specialized in monitoring and evaluating the scientific activity on the web of the world’s top universities in the field of research, studies, reports and electronic pages.

An-Najah was able to maintain its previous rank as first in Palestine and seventh in the Arab world from among 700 Arab universities. The University was also listed among the first 5% universities from among 22,000 universities and educational institution that were evaluated by the Webometrics.

Commenting on this achievement, Prof. Rami Hamdallah, President of An-Najah, thanked all the workers and employees at the University who worked hard day and night to keep the University in the lead locally, regionally and internationally.

During a press conference that was held at the President’s office at the Old Campus, Prof. Hamdallah mentioned that An-Najah has concluded all the preparations for the coming academic year 2011/2012 and is now ready to receive the students with new more majors being introduced to the University. These new academic programs include: Bachelor program in Radio and TV, Bachelor program in Public Relations and Communication, Master program in Women’s Studies, in addition to Bachelor Degree program in Urban Planning Engineering.

Prof. Hamdallah also said the University now offers 74 Bachelor Degree programs, 42 Master programs, and one PhD program in Chemistry; a PhD program in Physics will be offered in the coming months in addition to other PhD programs that will be offered in the future.

Moreover, Prof. Hamdallah spoke about the new Teaching Hospital which the University is currently building explaining that this distinctive project will act as a huge step for the medical field in Palestine and shall provide the Palestinians with advanced, cost-effective medical treatment. He also said that this hospital would be able to accommodate for 428 beds.

Regarding other projects, Prof. Hamdallah said the University has finished work on Zayed Nursing College which was built with a generous donation by the Zayed Charitable Foundation. The College will be functional by the beginning of the academic year 2011-2012 and shall contain the Faculties of Nursing, Optometry and Medicine. Additionally, the University will establish the Pediatric Studies Institute which will focus on diseases related to children especially Autism. The Institute will be built with a generous donation from a businessman abroad and the work will be executed through cooperation between the University and the Cooperation Institution.

Furthermore, the President spoke about the IEP program which is one of the programs adopted by the European University Association. The program covered the different institutional work at the University and the European team which was in charge of the program praised the University’s performance. He also spoke about the University’s Competency Development Program which focuses on preparing the university students to join the workplace more readily. It works on providing them with the skills and experience they need to excel in the work field.
