An-Najah University Library Holds Employee Training Workshop on the Unified Arab Index Service
On Thursday, March 21, the An-Najah University Library held a training workshop for employees on the Unified Arab Index Service. The training aimed at enabling employees to utilize all functions of the Unified Arab Index Service. Twelve employees participated in the workshop which included three sessions.
The first session presented by Mr. Hani Jaber, Director of the Library, offered an introduction to the Unified Arab Index Service and discussed its importance. Mr.. Jabr thanked the project coordinators and encouraged Arab libraries to join the project.
Mr. Ahmad Nafa' presented the second session. This session covered Marc 21, which is a system of digital standards for the classification of bibliographic records. Mr. Nafa' discussed the importance and benefits of Marc 21 as well as its main achievements in the field.
In the third session, Mr. Mansour Daraghmah presented on the use of the Unified Arab Index Service to research and retrieve records via the transferred and original indexes.
An-Najah National University joined the Unified Arab Index Service in 2008. The University Library System uses indexed records and the Unified Arab Index Service widely. Thus,Thursday’s training focused on improving employees’ skills with the service. Another workshop directed at familiarizing library members with the service is planned.
