On Saturday, April 11, 2015, Miss Samah Ishtieh from the An-Najah’s Faculty of Medicine participated in the Second Arab Conference on food and drugs which took place in Sharm Elsheikh, Egypt.

Miss Ishtieh gave a presentation entitled as "Compliance with Therapeutic Regimen among People with Hypertension".

She stated that blood pressure is the main reason for heart attacks and blood clotting. Therefore, the medical staff should pay more attention to patients of blood pressure in terms of health and social services. Blood pressure is a chronic disease; thus, patients should condition themselves to live with it by prevention and control measures.

The conference also included the opening of an exhibition of the sponsors' products, sessions on applied research and discussions on drugs censorship policies.

The participants recommended establishing two Arab committees for food and drugs under the supervision of the Arab League. They also recommended holding the conference periodically and uniting food laws in the Arab countries to reinforce trade exchange amongst them.

Notes:

-      The conference was over three days from 11-13 April, 2015. Thirty Arab and foreign countries participated in the conference.

-      The conference was held under the auspices of Eng. Ibrahim Mahlab, Prime Minister of Egypt, the Arab Administrative Development Organization, the Arab Health Ministries' Council and the Egyptian Ministry of Health.

-      The conference was opened by Professor Tawfik Khoja, General Director of the Executive Board of the GCC Health Ministers Council, Dr. Adel Adawy, Health Minister of Egypt, General Manager Khalid Fooda, Mayor of South Sinai Governorate, Dr. Ali Hyasat, Health Minister of Jordan and Mr. Bahar Abu Kurda, Health Minister of Sudan.

-      The next conference will be held in 2017 in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.
