The Earth Sciences and Seismic Engineering Center at An-Najah National University participated in the Second Workshop for the Dead Sea Project in which Palestine participated along with other countries in the region and a number of the German Institutions.  The workshop focused on projecting the results of geophysical and seismic studies that was conducted during the execution of the project in the Dead Sea Area.

Dr. Jalal Dabeek, Director of the Center, represented a paper in cooperation with Director of Center of Opinion Polls at An-Najah University, Dr. Hussein Ahmad, under the tile "The Range of Palestinian Citizens Awareness with Seismic Dangers."

The paper included the outputs of a Seismic Opinion Poll carried out by the University which identified the range of citizens’ awareness on earthquakes in Palestine.  The Poll also included the opinions of citizens concerning the authorities in charge in such status such as the Union of Engineers, local councils, and municipalities.  It is worth mentioning that Palestine was among the pioneer countries to conduct such polls on seismic awareness and precautions procedures.
