An-Najah National University holds the International Humanitarian Law Conference "Prospects and Challenges" in the Palestinian Territories

The International Humanitarian Law Conference titled "Prospects and Challenges" in the Palestinian Territories was organized on Monday, 7th of December 2009, at An Najah National University. The event was organized by the faculties of Law in the Palestinian universities and the cultural studies departments in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), International Law researchers, local community institutions and law experts from several Palestinian universities.
The conference was held at the Korean Palestinian IT Institute of Excellence (KPITIE) in the New Campus. In the conference, Dr. Basel Mansour, a professor of Law at An Najah National University, delivered a speech in which he discussed cultural property protection, while Dr. Husam Al-Shakhshir, from the International Committee of the Red Cross, spoke about the role that the Red Cross is carrying out in different parts of the world.
In addition to An Najah National University, other Palestinian universities have also delivered several speeches. Dr. Yaser Al-Amoor, from Bethlehem University, presented a work paper titled "The Palestinian Occupied Land from the Viewpoint of the International Humanitarian Law". Another work paper titled "Role of the International Criminal Justice Law in the Palestinian Territories” was delivered by Dr. Said Abu Fara from the Arab American University. Moreover, Dr. Muhammad Shalaldeh from Al-Quds University, and Dr. William Nassar from Birzeit University presented work papers titled "To What Extent is the International Criminal Court concerned with Prosecuting War Criminals" and "Crimes against Humanity", respectively.
Other work papers included: Israeli Judiciary and the International Humanitarian Law, the Palestinian responsibility towards the reinforcement of the International Humanitarian Law. Finally, Dr. Ghassan Khaled, from An Najah National University, delivered a speech about administrative detention according to International Humanitarian Law.
