On Sunday, March 22, 2015, An-Najah National University launched a campaign on genetic disorders in Palestine.
The campaign aimed at highlighting the popular genetic disorders in Palestine, patients' family'ssuffering,and ways to overcome social biases against patients with genetic disorders.

Dr. Mohammad El-Amleh, Vice President of the Academic Affairs talked about the social viewpoint of genetic disorders and how people used to think that these types of disorders were incurable. He added that today's research aims at diminishing genetic disorders as medical science develops.

In his turn, Dr. Mustafa Ghanim from the Microbiology Unit at An-Najah Hospital talked about the political, economic, and social obstacles that are encountered by the medical staff at the Palestinian hospitals. Dr. Ghanim announced the initiation of a project on Down's syndrome in Palestine. He also stated that the sign with the red palm indicates that there are people who care and support for the patients and their families.

Dr. Ghanem mentioned that Thalassemia disorder has almost vanished in the Palestinian community since 1996. This implies that the Palestinian local community is committed to pre-marriage testing.

-The campaign's opening ceremony was attended by Dr. Mohammad El-Amleh, Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. Adnan Mulhem, Vice President of Community Affairs, Dr. Khalil Issa, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Dr. Mustafa Ghanim, the Campaign Supervisor, Dr. Bashar Al-Karmi, Representative of Thalassemia Patient's Friends Society, and Mr. Haidar Abu Mukhu, Representative of Down Syndrome Friends (Alraheem Association).

-Almost 600 volunteer and 10 charity institutes participated in the campaign.
