An-Najah Hosts a Fund-Raising Evening for Cancer Patients.
A special dinner organized by the Palestinian Green party at the cafeteria of An-Najah, aimed to raise funds for the benefit of cancer patients in Nablus. The dinner was attended by Mr. Mahmoud Aloul, Governor of Nablus, Prof. Rami Hamdallah, University President, doctors working in the field of cancer and a number of prestigious personalities from the Nabulsi community.
Mr. Tareef Ashour, representative of the Green party in Nablus, gave a brief presentation about the party; he explained how they had first started in 1995 with the aim to unite citizens of different backgrounds to work for the environment and preserve the different environmental resources - whether air, land or water. He pointed out that there is a major importance in the perseverance of water and spreading awareness amongst families and young people to give more attention to their surroundings, especially the natural resources and historical sites. He then talked about the dumping of Israeli waste close to Palestinian cities and populations and its relation to the increasing number of cancer cases being discovered daily.
In his speech Prof. Rami Hamdalla, University President, welcomed the guests and expressed the university’s support for the party and its noble goals. He assured that the university would expend all its efforts to support the projects of the party in order to make a better and cleaner environment.
Dr. Yusef Hurani and Luai Shaheen, from the cancer and tumors section at the National Hospital of Nablus, talked about their experiences with patients suffering from this disease and how best to support and deal with them.
At the end of the evening, the door was opened for those who wanted to make donations and some musical pieces were played by the band of the National Music Conservatory in Nablus.
