 An-Najah University celebrated the launching of the Arabic for Non-natives Program which is run by the Languages Center at the University. Attendees included: Prof. Rami Hamdallah, President of An-Najah, Prof. Maher Abu Eid, Vice President for Academic Affairs, President Assistant for Strategic and International Affairs, Dr. Stefan Sperl, Head of the Department of the Languages and Cultures of Near and Middle East at the University of London, Dr. Maher Abu Zant, Dean of the Faculty of Arts at An-Najah, Dr. Ra’ed Abdel Raheem, coordinator of the Arabic for Non-natives Unit, Mr. Abdul Jabbar Al-Khalili, Director of the Languages Center at An-Najah, in addition to a number of Faculties’ Deans and directors of the administrative departments at the University.

Mr. Al-Khalili delivered a speech in which he spoke about the establishment and dev elopement of the Languages Center at An-Najah and the services it offers the students; special units for teaching English, Arabic and other languages have been introduced to the Center.

Dr. Abdel Raheem spoke about the idea behind the Arabic for Non-natives project explaining that the programs aims to promote the Arabic language and reflect a general image of the Arab and Palestinian societies to the learners who come from various parts of the world.

Dr. Stefan spoke about the Department of the Languages and Cultures of Near and Middle East at the University of London and expressed the Department’s interest in establishing cooperation relationships with An-Najah whereby students studying Arabic at the University of London could be send to learn more about Arabic at An-Najah.

At the end of the celebration, certificates were distributed among the participants in the training course that was held to prepare teachers to work as a teaching staff in the new program.
