An-Najah Announces Winners of An-Najah’s Award for Research in Natural Sciences
Deanship of Scientific Research at An-Najah National University announced today names of the winners of An-Najah’s Award for Research in Natural Sciences in 2009. The University aims through this competition at encouraging Arab scientists for purposive and creative research. The Award, which includes a financial support of $5000, is distributed among winners. The Award was initiated in order to encourage Arab researchers in developing scientific research, transferring technology and stabilizing it through conducting distinctive, contemporary and applied research.
This Award is part of the University's endeavor to encourage research in Palestine and Arab countries by supporting the original scientific research with its humanitarian and applied components. The Award is given to the researchers for their special contributions in the technical and scientific additions in the frame of the scientific research.
For this year, the Award is given to Prof. Mu'etasem Hawamdeh from the Faculty of Pharmacy of University of Jordan on his research "Combining Ligand-Based Pharmacophore Modeling, Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationship Analysis and in Silico Screening for the Discovery of New Potent Hormone Sensitive Lipase Inhibitors". Prof. Hawamdeh received the Award in appreciation of his service to scientific research along with his co- researchers: Lina Dahabiya, Yasir Bustanji, Hiba Zallom and Suhier Saleh.
The celebration ceremony took place in the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Jordan with the presence of Dr. Sami Jabr, Dean of Scientific Research of An-Najah National University, as a representative of Prof. Rami Hamdallah, University's President, and a number of the academics of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Jordan and a number of researchers.
Dr. Jabr appreciated the role of scientific research in the development of the community, and he also thanked all Palestinian and Arab researchers for their participation this year and congratulated Dr. Hawamdeh for winning the award this year. He also added that An-Najah has withheld the Award of Humanitarian Sciences as the researches haven’t reached the required level.
Prof. Hamdallah said that the award is an important event for the University and its Deanship of Scientific Research, as it is organized to encourage scientific research. He also congratulated Prof. Hawamdeh and his colleagues for winning this Award, while inviting all researchers to compete in the different arenas of scientific research.
