An exhibition organized by the local committee for the rehabilitation of the handicapped in Askar Refugee camp was opened at the University in cooperation with An-Najah and the Shua’a Palestinian Foundation.
Mr. Amjad Rifai, the head of the Local Committee for the Rehabilitation of the Handicapped, said that more than fifty mentally-handicapped children aged 3-16 years are taking part in this exhibition. The main objective behind the exhibition is to give these children the chance to show their handiwork, paintings, pictures and talent. It is also aimed at introducing people to these special children so that they know more about their potentials and their right to a normal life and education.
The exhibition comes as part of the activities usually organized by Askar Center and the Local Committee for the Rehabilitation of the Handicapped that is funded by CARE Foundation. The CARE Foundation supervises the rehabilitation of more than 150 handicapped children in Nablus; offering kids physiotherapy, functional treatment, special education and instructing children in the use of special-help tools.
The exhibition was opened by Prof. Rami Hamdallah, the University President, and was attended by students of the university as well as many local prestigious personalities including Mrs. Khawla Nabulsi, Head of the Social Affairs Office in Nablus; Mr. Rafi Daraghmen, head of the Public Relations Department and Dr. Yousef Diab from The Jerusalem Open University.
