A Workshop on Rehabilitation and Recovery in Psychological Health at Faculty of Nursing
In cooperation with World Health Organization, the Faculty of Nursing organized a workshop about "Rehabilitation and Recovery in Psychological Health". The organization of the workshop comes as part of the extensive activities that the Faculty of Nursing has been conducting in preparation of the opening of Community Psychological Health Nursing MA Program. The academic program will start at the first semester of 2009-2010, which will be the first of its type in Palestine.
The workshop was attended by Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, Dr. Adnan Sarhan, and a representative of the WHO, representatives of NGOs working in the arena of Psychological Health, and academics at the faculty of Nursing.
Dr. Sarhan, in his opening remarks, thanked the WHO for their efforts and continuous support in training the academics of the Faculty on the usage of the most recent scientific and practical methods of nursing, dealing with the psychological patients, developing psychological nursing care using the highest world therapy protocols.
The workshop revolved around the rehabilitating modern methods of therapy, and ways of presenting nursing care for psychological patients through focusing on the important role of the qualified nurse specialized in psychological health.
The participants in the workshop discussed the methods of therapy used in England and Australia, especially in dealing with delusions and hallucinations. They also discussed the recovery period and changing the negative stereotypes on the psycho patient that our Palestinian community still suffers. Participants also discussed following the most recent nursing care protocols, followed in advanced countries, and applying them to Palestinian community, the difference in the level of psychological health followed in Palestinian community.
At the end of the workshop, Dr. Sarhan thanked the participants and emphasized the importance of continuing the organization of such courses, conferences, workshops in order to get acquainted with the latest research in nursing sciences.
