On October 12th 2010, a training course for CISCO trainers was organized at the CISCO Regional Academy training center at Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology in Nablus. The course consisted of two training parts, CCNA and IT Essentials which are the major requirements needed for the establishment of a local academy for CISCO systems.

The course was organized in coordination and support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) as well as through Save the Children and Mercy Corps organizations as being the executors of the Vocational Training and Education Support Project. Nine instructors from the member institutions in the Vocational Training and Education Association in Palestine participated in the course which lasted for 21 days with 160 training hours. Those institutions included: Palestine Polytechnic University in Hebron, Al-Yateem Al Arabi School in Jerusalem, the Evangelical Lutheran School of Hope in Ramallah and others.

The training course aimed to pave the way for the establishment of three local academies for Cisco systems in Jerusalem, Ramallah and Hebron through training instructors by the CISCO Regional Academy at Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology in Nablus. This step comes as part of the unique partnership agreement between Mercy Corps Organization and Hijjawi College according to which the CISCO Regional Academy supports the establishment of local Cisco academies in Palestine.

Mr. Ziyad Jaser, Director of the Program at Mercy Corps, expressed his happiness that all nine trainees have successfully passed the international test and hoped that they would be able to establish local Cisco academies within their institutions. He also valued the efforts that the College has exerted to provide trainees with the needed training and support.

On his part, Dr. Ghassan Hilo, Dean of Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology, said that providing those instructors with such training highlights the College's commitment to the development and support of the vocational training and education sector in Palestine. He also thanked Mercy Corps for its continuous efforts to support this sector and valued the efforts that Engineer Muhammad Zahlan and Engineer Munif Qaffaf have exerted to provide the trainees with such advanced training according to Cisco international standards.
