Prof. Rami Hamdallah, President of An-Najah National University, announced in a press conference attended by media representatives and journalists today that the University is celebrating on Thursday (11 June) the 29th commencement ceremony which includes the graduation of 2200 students from all faculties.  The celebrations will continue till next Sunday, whereas the commencement ceremony of Hisham Hijjawi College will be on next Monday.  The ceremony will include the graduation of the first commencement of the Faculty of Human Medicine.

Prof. Hamdallah added that the graduates are distributed to 67 bachelor programs, 25 MA programs and one PhD program in Chemistry.  He pointed out that the University began its summer semester last Sunday and will begin the new academic year (2009/2010) on August 20th, 2009, where 4200 students, with the best averages will be admitted, taking into consideration the quality of the students who will graduate from the University.

Prof. Hamdallah also stated that the University is going further in the educational hospital project that is considered a serious step in promoting health sector in Palestine. The first building of the hospital is almost done which will include the eye-hospital, as well as finishing up the front yards for the facilities. 

Prof. Hamdallah added that the teaching hospital will be the biggest on the national level, and will include about 600 beds which will provide health services to the University and the local community. The new teaching hospital will replace the National Hospital in Nablus (Wattani), according to an agreement signed with the Ministry of Health.

The University's President also talked about the University's academic progress and achievements on all levels.  He also talked about the University's receiving of accreditation for a number of programs in BA, and MA Degrees, which will be new additions to the University's contribution in developing the higher education section and providing the local markets with high quality qualifications and specializations.

President Hamdallah added that the University expects the accreditation of other programs.  He also referred to the University's opening of the Sport Complex at the New Campus which will serve the Faculty of Physical Education and the community as well.

Prof. Hamdallah also talked about the “media center project” that will be the basis stone of the Faculty of Media as it will include several departments related to mass media and journalism, and which will cooperate with all media institutions to develop media work on local, Arabic and international cooperation.

He also referred to the project of Atouf villlage electrification using solar cells, through cooperation between the Center of Energy Research and the Spanish Agency for Cooperation.  The project as Prof. Hamdallah said depends on the usage of a clean source of energy for a 24 hours service of electrification.

The University's President noted that the recent report of State Audit and Administrative Control Bureau has shown that An-Najah received a 100% in terms of having a structural organization, an accurate description of jobs, a complete accounting system, a computerized system, developing human resources, evaluation of performance, and duty separation, got %80 for the internal censorship, while the general evaluation percentage was up to %96, which is considered a great achievement.

President Hamdallah spoke about the university's libraries that include thousands of books, which are of great use not only to the university's students but also to the students of AlQuds Open University, and finally talked about the academic evaluations of some academic programs that the university acquire of top places among Arab universities.
