A Lecture for the Palestinian Writer, Walid Abu Baker at the University

On March 312010, the Department of Arabic Language and Literature at the University in cooperation with the Palestinian Ministry of Culture organized a literary lecture for the Palestinian writer Walid Abu Baker in the Conferences Hall at the University. Dr. Khalil Odeh, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Dr. Abdel Khalek Issa, Head of the Department of Arabic Language and Literature as well as a number of instructors and students attended the meeting.In his lecture, Abu Baker spoke about the new changes and trends in the Palestinian novel, emphasizing the role of the young Palestinian writers who represent and reflect the Palestinian reality through their writings. "It is the young writer on whom we depend in representing the Palestinian history and present, and there have been more than 33 young writers who wrote more than 48 different novels since 1993." said Abu Baker.Currently, Abu Baker is the Director of Ugarit Culture Center and the Secretary for International Relations at the Secretariat General of the General Union of Palestinian Writers. He is a renowned Palestinian novelist, critic and translator and has published more than 20 books in different fields such as poetry, novel, literary and drama criticism.He wrote several novels such as "The Tale" and "The Faces", and published a number of critical studies that discussed various issues such as: the image of the Arab individual as depicted in the Israeli literature, body language in drama, the land and the revolution. He also published 15 books that he translated from English and French such as: the Legislative Theater and History Curriculum in the Israeli High Schools.In addition to writing and publishing books, Abu Baker has attended several literary and intellectual conferences in which he participated with a number of researches and studies in the field of literature.
