On February 23rd, the Engineering Communication Center (ECC) organized an open day for the Friends of the Palestinian Engineer Society as part of the “Guest of the Week” program that is organized by the ECC under the auspices of the University President, Prof. Rami Hamdallah. The day aimed at launching the activities of the Society which was established by the students of the Faculty of Engineering. This Society is an Engineering Palestinian Student Society which obtained an official license from the Palestinian Ministry of interior recently.

Prof. Hamdallah inaugurated the Society’s exhibition at the Faculty of Engineering . Attendees included: Dr. Nabil Dmaidi, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Issam Jardaneh, Head of the Civil Engineering Department, Engineer Muhammad Dwaikat, Director of the ECC, in addition to Muhammad Al-Dana, Head of the Society and the representative of the students who established the Society and its administrative board.

Prof. Hamdallah said “We value the efforts of those students; I came to the Faculty today for them. They came with a great idea and I wish all success for this Society and the students. I discussed with Dr. Dmaidi the idea of providing a place for this Society and other students’ societies like the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) inside the University to practice their activities.

Dr. Dmaidi on his part said that the Faculty of Engineering always welcomes students’ creative ideas and work which help them expand their understanding and facilitate their integration into life. He added that the Faculty trusts in its students’ abilities to suggest creative ideas.

MUhammad Al-Dana stated that the Society specializes in addressing and dealing with issues related to the students of engineering in the different Palestinian universities; it is an independent, voluntary, non-profit, professional scientific society whose domain work covers the different parts of the West Bank. The idea of this society stemmed out from the need to activate the role of young engineers to participate in building and development processes through unifying the Palestinian youth into a single group; it also aimed to enhance the scientific competency of the engineers to participate positively in the work field and develop engineering services in the country.

The Society aims at developing the scientific thinking of the engineering students through establishing engineering, professional, and scientific communication between the students of the University and their colleagues in other Palestinian universities.  It also aims at facilitating the exchange of scientific production and the scientific ideas by cooperating with institutes, ministries, societies, and corporations in Palestine, as well as educating engineering students about the different engineering fields.

Engineer Muhammad Dwaikat said that the ECC will adopt the Society and supervise its works at the Faculty. It will also provide a space for it to practice its activities; he added that the University hosts branches of other students’ societies such as the IEEE. The ECC also works on providing the student branch of the Engineers without Borders Society and that of the Consumer Protection Society a permission to start working on educating and training other students on how to get them selves involved in the administrative and scientific system and suggest ideas and projects that would benefit the students.
