A Gallery on the History of An-Najah University
The Palestine Media Unit (Zajel) of the Public Relations Department announced the launching of a virtual gallery of photos. The photos are a collection of various activities which took place at the university throughout the 1980's. The gallery contains photos of events, activities, academics, festivals, graduation ceremonies, political and traditional events, as well as sports matches. The photos were being scanned for two years, and in addition, the project required much work to be done using Adobe Photoshop. The photos were taken by Mr. Hisham Al-zu`abi. Through this project Zajel aims to maintain the heritage of the university as well as archive its past. Mr. Ala Yousef, Coordinator of the Zajel program said the project is in addition to previous archiving projects Zajel has conducted, including the archiving of the Newspapers of Yafa and the documents from the An-Najah School of the 1920's. He added that this history embodies the history of Palestine.
Employees of the university expressed their appreciation for the project which they feel recalls the past and the memories of An-Najah. Hundreds of photos were chosen out of a collection of thousands. Mr. Hani Jaber, Director of the University Library said that the project is an attempt not only to tell the story of the city of Nablus but also of Palestine in general. The photos also show the efforts of the people and personalities who served the university diligently until their passing.
