On March 20th, the University organized a film screening for a film titled “Identity of the Soul” for the renowned Palestinian Poet, Mahmoud Darwish and the Norwegian playwright, Henrik Ibsen. The film was featured in cooperation with Sharek Youth Forum and was attended by Mrs. Sherein Othman, Coordinator of the project, producer Martina Road, as well as a number of students and others.

The film included Ibsen’s poem “Terje Vigen” and Darwish’s poem “A Soldier Dreaming of White Lilies”. The screening lasted for an hour and told the story of a young man during the Norwegian-British War who is arrested by the British soldiers while he was going to buy some food for his children. When this young man is set free, he decided to revenge from the officer who arrested him, but when this guy arrests the officer he decides to forgive him and set him free.

Despite the difference in time between the life of the Norwegian writer and that of Mahmoud Darwish, the content of the film has combined the ideas of the two poets which include justice and a person’s stance towards revenging from or forgiving a person who once insulted him.

This film has been translated into seven languages and is featured in all Palestinian universities.
