A Delegation from the University of Pavia in Italy Visits the University

On May 30th 2010, a delegation from the University of Pavia in Italy headed by Pavia's Rector, Professor Angiolino Stella, Professor Lorenzo Rampa, Vice Rector for Finance and Budget Affairs, Professor Giorgio Guizzetti, Vice Rector for Local Affairs, Professor Gianni Vaggi, Delegate for Developing Countries and the Director of the Center for International Cooperation and Development, as well as Dr. Grazia Bruttocao, the Rector's Spokesperson and Head of Press Office visited An-Najah. The delegation was received by the University President, Prof. Rami Hamdallah and President Assistant for International and Strategic Affairs.
In the meeting, Prof. Hamdallah welcomed the delegation and presented a summary describing An-Najah's history and development, the academic programs it offers, the various faculties it includes, and the efforts it exerts in its quest to provide the local society with the best of services and support. Furthermore, the President spoke about the joint academic cooperation between An-Najah and Pavia and stressed the importance of maintaining this cooperation through promoting academic exchange and joint meetings.

The delegation discussed a number of issues related to the educational conditions in Palestine and the challenges that students encounter. In this respect, Prof. Hamdallah spoke about the role that An-Najah plays in order to provide the Palestinian students with the education they need despite the difficult current situations on the ground caused by the Israeli occupation.
On his part, Professor Stella presented a brief description of the University of Pavia in which he spoke about the history of this university, the academic programs it provides to Italian students and the different exchange programs and facilities it includes. Following this, Professor Rampa discussed the possibilities of supporting cooperation and exchange with respect to education, research and other issues of common interest between An-Najah and Pavia.
The delegation was also invited to visit the New Campus, particularly the Faculty of Fine Arts, the Korean-Palestinian IT Institute of Excellence and the Media Center and was introduced to the technological development it has reached. The guests then visited the Old City of Nablus and a number of historical and significant parts of the city.
