A Delegation from the Ministry of Higher Education in France Visits the University

On October 13th 2010, a delegation from the Ministry of Higher Education in France visited the University headed by Mr. Jean-Luc Clement, Councillor for Research and Higher Education at the Ministry of Higher Education in France. The delegation also consisted of a number of representatives of the French Consulate including Mr. Pinot Ted, Cooperation Officer at the Consulate.
The delegation was received by the University President, Prof. Rami Hamdallah, Prof. Maher Abu Eid, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Prof. Ghassan Saffarini, Dean of Scientific Research at the University, Prof. Hikmat Hilal from the Department of Chemistry at the University, as well as Dr. Ali Abdel Hamid, Director of the Center for Urban and Regional Planning at the University.
Prof. Hamdallah welcomed the guests to the University and presented a summary of the University, its history, academic programs and the level of development it was able to achieve over the last years. He also pointed out to the importance of cooperation between the University and the French Consulate for the purpose of enhancing the quality of higher education and research which would lead to the development of Palestinian society.
On his part, Mr. Clement emphasized the importance of cooperation between the Consulate and An-Najah and the role that the development of cooperation in the field of scientific research could play both in Palestine and France. He also discussed with the President the possibility of running a Doctoral School Project which he said will be financed and endorsed by the Ministry of Higher Education in France.
After the meeting, Prof. Abu Eid accompanied the delegation on a tour to the University's campus where the members of the delegation were introduced to the University's various aspects of development in the different academic, research and architectural fields.
The delegation also conducted a visit to the Center for Urban and Regional Planning at the University where they met with Dr. Abdel Hamid and discussed the proposed project. They also met with Prof. Hilal and discussed the Maqdissi Program in addition to other research matters. Another meeting was arranged with Prof. Saffarini where the members of the delegation discussed the status of research, activities, obstacles, and needs.
