Prof. Rami Hamdallah, President of An-Najah University, received in his office at the Old Campus a delegation from the City of Nazareth in northern Palestine that included Mr. Ramez Jaraisi, Mayor of Nazareth, Professor George Qanaze’, President of Nazareth College, Mr. Ahmed Afifi, as well as Mr. Munib Al-Masri, a Palestinian businessman.

At the beginning of the meeting, Prof. Hamdallah welcomed the delegation and presented to them a brief description about An-Najah University, its origin, development, the academic programs it offers, the number students and the relationships it holds with different local and international educational institutions and universities. A documentary was also displayed which summarized the history of the University, the educational role it carries out in service of the Palestinian society, the role of its scientific centers in serving the local society, and the architectural development the University has witnessed over the last ten years.

Mr. Jaraisi thanked Prof. Hamdallah for the great effort he makes in serving the field of higher education in Palestine and expressed his pride of An-Najah which was able to occupy a unique place in the field of higher education. He also hoped that fruitful cooperation would be established between An-Najah and Nazareth College which is currently being constructed in Nazareth.

The delegation aimed through their visit to An-Najah to get a close look at the developments that the University has witnessed and take advantage of them to develop the Nazareth College and turn it into a full-fledged university. The delegation also discussed with Prof. Hamdallah the possibility to have An-Najah offer some sort of assistance to the College with respect to engineering and construction issues and the design of the College’s buildings, as well as offering assistance with respect to the academic field and the design of study plans.

Prof. Hamdallah mentioned that An-Najah will put its potentials into assisting Nazareth College to become more developed. He also pointed out the possibility to have students from the College study at An-Najah as a kind of academic cooperation. Moreover, Prof. Hamdallah said the University is ready to send a number of professors and teaching staff to help in the teaching process at the Nazareth College.

At the conclusion of their visit, the delegation members expressed their admiration by the advanced level that the University has achieved in the different fields and that it is a good example of academic advancement. The two institutions agreed on a mutual cooperation program that will be launched soon.
