A Cultural Seminar about the Palestinian Identity in the Eyes of Youth
22 March 2010
On March 22nd 2010, the University organized a cultural seminar at the conferences hall at the Old Campus titled "The Palestinian Identity in the Eyes of Youth". The seminar was held in cooperation with the British Council and a number of local institutions.
Dr. Sae\'d Abu Hijleh, instructor at the Department of Geography at the University, delivered a lecture in which he spoke about the Palestinian identity. He explained that the identity stands for the absolute truth of the individual and his intrinsic characteristics.
The identity is not determined only by personal merits, but also with respect to a number of factors such as place and time, language, religion, traditions and customs. Since the Palestinian people have been living in difficult conditions that greatly affected their identity, an aching need emerged to preserve this identity and to try to instill it in the minds of young Palestinians.
