International Relations Office at A-Najah National University, and in cooperation with its Forensic Medicine Institute and Human Medicine Faculty, and with support of EUPOL-Copps, organized a training course on crime scene investigation, its basics and practical applications. the training course was attended by Mr. Micheal Schulte-Schrepping, Criminal Justice and Police Laws Expert, and the trainer in this course, Dr. Ghassan Abu Hijleh, Director of the Forensic Medicine Institute, Dr. Rami Zagha, a specialist in Pathology and assistant to Dean of the faculty of Human Medicine for Primary Stages, Judge Kamal Jabr, Member of the Council of Higher Justice, Mr. Baha’ AlAhmad, Head of General Attorney Office in Nablus, Salem Jarrar, Chief Prosecuter in the General Attorney Office in Ramallah, a number of Prosecutors and Officers at the Police Criminalistics Department.

Mr. Micheal Schult-Schrepping, the trainer in this course, said that this course is important because it establishes cooperation between the Police and General Prosecutors. Mr. Miceal discussed many issues during the training course such as: the VOWS Model ( Victim, Offender, Witness, Scene), crime scene investigation through studying real cases showed in films, analyzing a crime scene and handling it.

Dr. Rami Zagha, on his turn, said that this course is part of the university endeavor in playing its rule in the society through the education of General attorneys and criminal investigators on the best way to investigate a crime scene.

Mr. Salem Jarar talked about the legal aspects and definition of a crime scene , and its important as a silent witness on the committed crime, as well as the legal aspect of the investigation conducted and the role of the General Prosecutes in the investigation.

It’s worth noting the the Forensics Medicine Institute, where the training course is conducted, was established as part of an agreement between An-Najah University and the Ministry of Justice, and it provides its services to police departments in the West Bank to look into further evidences related to the autopsy of dead corpses found at a crime scene. The course held will continue for four days to cover theories and practical application of criminal investigation, in hope to conduct further training courses on this subject for its importance.
