Dr. Khereih Rassas, Vice President for International and External Affairs of An Najah National University and President of UNIMED – Mediterranean Universities Union, recently concluded a highly productive visit to the Italian capital. During her stay, she engaged in fruitful discussions with officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Higher Education, in preparation for the upcoming second ministerial conference on higher education, scheduled to take place in Morocco this November under the auspices of the European Union and the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM).

An integral part of Dr. Rassas' visit involved meetings with a select group of Italian university presidents, representing thirty-six esteemed institutions that are members of the UNIMED network. These discussions aimed to foster collaborative initiatives and forge stronger academic ties between universities in the Euro-Mediterranean region.

In a notable sideline meeting, Dr. Rassas had the privilege of meeting with the Palestinian Ambassador to Italy, Ms. Abeer Odeh. They engaged in a dialogue concerning the significance of nurturing human capital in the Euro-Mediterranean region, with a particular focus on the pivotal role played by university students and their contributions to regional development.

Furthermore, Dr. Rassas, exercising her authority as the President of the Union of Euro-Mediterranean Universities, signed a memorandum of understanding with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), represented by Mr. Laurence Hart, Director of the Organization's Coordination Office.

This memorandum seeks to facilitate coordination and collaboration between the two entities in the areas of capacity building, training, scientific research, and data collection.

Dr. Rassas emphasized the pivotal role of young people as the driving force behind economic growth and development. She stressed the need for concerted efforts to ensure accessible and comprehensive education for youth, enabling them to build their capacities, gain empowerment, and secure employment, thereby enhancing their social and living conditions, regardless of their location or circumstances.
