French Institutes for Advanced Study (FIAS) Fellowship Programme Call for Applications 2024/2025
We are delighted to announce the launch of the call for applications for the French Institutes for Advanced Study (FIAS) Fellowship Programme. The FIAS 2024-2025 call for applications is now open and we invite interested individuals to apply.
The French Institutes for Advanced Study Fellowship Programme offers 10-month fellowships at seven Institutes located in Aix-Marseille, Loire Valley (Orléans-Tours), Lyon, Montpellier, Nantes, Paris, and Rennes. We welcome applications from esteemed international scholars and scientists who wish to develop their innovative research projects in France.
For the upcoming academic year 2024-2025, FIAS is offering a total of 40 fellowship positions, distributed as follows: 4 in Aix-Marseille, 3 in Loire Valley (Orléans-Tours), 10 in Lyon, 3 in Montpellier, 4 in Nantes, 13 in Paris, and 3 in Rennes.
The call for applications is open to all disciplines in the social sciences and the humanities (SSH), as well as all other research fields. Research projects in the arts and other sciences, which propose a strong interaction and dialogue with the SSH, are also eligible. Please consider the scientific priorities of the host Institutes for Advanced Study before applying.
Selected FIAS fellows will have the freedom to organize their research while benefiting from the supportive and intellectually stimulating environment provided by the Institutes of Advanced Study. This environment includes a multidisciplinary cohort of fellows and close collaboration with local research centers and laboratories.
Conditions:
All Institutes of Advanced Study adhere to common standards, ensuring that selected fellows receive a living allowance of 2,700€ per month, social security coverage, accommodation, a research and training budget, and coverage of travel expenses.
Eligibility:
FIAS awards fellowships to exceptional researchers at all career levels, ranging from postdoctoral researchers to senior scientists. The minimum requirement is a PhD plus 2 years of research experience at the time of application. Scholars with a Master's degree plus 6 years of full-time research experience after the degree will also be considered (PhD training will not be included in the calculation of experience).
Researchers from any country are eligible for the FIAS Fellowship Programme, provided they have not spent more than 12 months in France during the three years preceding the application deadline.

Selection Process:
The scientific selection process is highly competitive and merit-based. It involves an international independent peer review conducted in July to October 2023. The FIAS Selection Committee will conduct preselection in November 2023, followed by the final selection by the IAS Scientific Advisory Boards in January to February 2024. The results will be communicated in March 2024.
