On Monday, September 6, 2021, An-Najah National University hosted the Korean Representative to Palestine Mr. SONG Si-jin who was accompanied with Dr. Youseung Shin, Country Director of KOICA Palestine Office, and Mr. JungHwan Suh, Deputy Country Director of KOICA Palestine office.


The delegation was received by Prof. Maher Al-Natsheh, President of the University, Prof. Abdel Nasser Zaid, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Mr. Rasem Sawwan, Director of An-Najah's Korean-Palestinian IT Institute of Excellence and the Business Innovation & Technology Hub (NGate).  

The visit aimed at discussing possible areas of future joint cooperation in terms of ‎conducting joint development projects between the two parties in the fields of ‎technology and entrepreneurship. Additionally, it aimed at learning more about the progress made on An-Najah's Korean-Palestinian IT Institute of Excellence and the challenges it faces.

Prof. Natsheh welcomed the delegation and stressed the importance of the cooperation An-Najah has with a number of academic Korean institutions. He also commended the Korean government role in offering support to An-Najah in terms of information technology and expertise exchange.

Moreover, Prof. Natsheh briefed the delegation on An-Najah’s mission, history, facts and figures, international rankings and other academic achievements.

Mr. Sawwan talked about the Institute's history, goals, achievements, activities and the services it offers to the Palestinian community. He also briefed the delegates on the ‎University's efforts to shift its educational system to a more entrepreneurial ‎framework through strategies that include offering training courses and programs in the fields of modern technology, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and software.

Mr. Sawwan stressed the Business Innovation & Technology Hub's mission which is to promote a culture of innovation, entrepreneurship, research commercialization, stimulate the development and incubation of innovative ideas and build the capacity of youth in partnership with the industry.

The delegation in return commended An-Najah administration for its contribution to upgrade the quality of higher education in Palestine. They also welcomed the idea of cooperation in various fields including technology, entrepreneurship, and programming, and stated that they

will check possible opportunities to develop new programs with the Korean-Palestinian IT institute of Excellence in the coming years. 

At the end of their visit, the delegation was given a tour of the Institute to learn about its facilities and infrastructure. Finally, they met with some students from the University who showcased their entrepreneurial projects incubated by the business incubator (NGATE).
