An-Najah National University, represented by Prof. Sa'ed Zyoud, Director of the Poison Control and Drug Information Center, showcased its commitment to global health initiatives by participating in a workshop organized by the World Health Organization (WHO). The workshop, held in Kuwait from February 3 to 5, 2024, focused on finalizing a regional framework for the public health response to chemical incidents and establishing a regional network of poison centers in the Eastern Mediterranean region.

The international meeting aimed to bolster poison center services, enhance human health, and foster a collaborative society to develop self-sustainable capabilities. An-Najah National University played a vital role in this initiative, contributing to the establishment of a regional network that facilitates the exchange of experiences, supports member states in establishing or improving poison centers, and sets operational standards for these centers.

Prof. Zyoud, also the Director of the Clinical Research Center at An-Najah National University Hospital, presented the center's development and its impactful services to the local community, particularly in the field of poisoning cases. He highlighted the center's aspirations to serve the Palestinian community 24/7.

The workshop concluded with participants emphasizing the shared goal and direction of all poison centers, marking the beginning of long-term cooperation in the region. As part of the workshop, attendees visited the Kuwait Poison Control Center at Al-Amiri Hospital to witness its operations and progress since its opening in 2023.

Prof. Zyoud mentioned that the Poison Control and Drug Information Center at An-Najah National University, established in 2006, aims to raise awareness of medication safety, prevent poisoning, and address poisoning cases for the well-being of the community. The center, accredited by the World Health Organization since its inception, operates a 24-hour hotline providing guidance services to community members.

An-Najah National University, under the leadership of Prof. Abdel Nasser Zaid, the University President, reaffirms its commitment to prioritizing the health and safety of community members. The university is dedicated to providing comprehensive community services, positioning itself as a leading destination for healthcare in Palestine.
