An-Najah National University Scholars Making Waves: Representing Palestine in Global Competitions. In a recent standout participation, students of the university's Physical Education Department took part in international tournaments. Notably, Athletes from the university's football team teamed up with the Palestinian Women's National Team in a friendly match against Ireland's Bohemian Club. This poignant gesture, in commemoration of the Nakba anniversary, resonates with the university's steadfast dedication to fostering sustainable development through education excellence, collaborative partnerships, and gender parity.


Sara Shakhshir, a student enrolled in the Department of Physical Education, contributed to the international solidarity match. Additionally, she serves as a prominent member of both the university's football team and represents Palestine in the national women's team, her participation added significant value to the event.

Also present at the event was Hala Sarawi, a graduate of the Faculty of Humanities and Educational Sciences and an integral player in the match. Incidentally, Ahmad Sharaf, a doctoral candidate, played a role in the national team's coaching staff as part of his doctoral program.

Sara Shakhshir expressed her happiness and pride in this participation, considering it as a groundbreaking and exceptional experience. This initiative was a deliberate effort aimed at fostering stronger ties between the Palestinian and Irish communities.

Shakhshir expressed, “It's a novel experience amidst the harsh conditions facing Palestinians. Our participation aimed to amplify the Palestinian voice globally, conveying a unique national message. We were deeply moved by the overwhelming support of the Palestinian community there.”

She continued, "My message is clear: Trust in your abilities, pursue your passions, and have faith in yourself."

Mr. Waseem Oqab, the Coach of football at the Department of Sports Activities within the Deanship of Student Affairs, and lecturer in the Department of Physical Education, underscored the vital role of both local and international engagements for students. He emphasized how such involvements elevate their standing and confidence, especially with the participation of female students' active participation, fostering an environment of equality. Additionally, he commended Sara Shakhshir's remarkable dedication to requisite activities and training.

It is noteworthy that our national women's team secured a victory in the friendly solidarity match against Ireland's Bohemian Football Club with a score of 2-1.
