On Tuesday, August 4, 2020, An-Najah BioSciences Unit (NBU)‎ signed three bioequivalence studies agreements with Sama Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Company.

The two representing parties were Prof. Maher Natsheh, An-Najah University President and Eng. Mahmoud Al-Zalmout, Sama's Chairman of the Board of Directors.

According to the agreement, NBU will start doing bioequivalence studies to compare drugs manufactured by Sama with the reference drug after getting the approval from the Drug Registration Department of the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

NBU will make sure that locally manufactured drugs match the reference standards. Primarily, these studies measure correspondence with the international criteria with regards to drug speed and absorption.

Prof. Natsheh stressed on the importance of these agreements that encourage applied and qualitative scientific research. He also paid tribute to the Company's efforts to foster partnership with the University and support scientific research which contributes to the advancement of sustainable development in Palestine.

Al-Zalmout also stressed on the importance of strategic partnership that links the Company with the University, and the cooperation efforts made to offer different consulting services, especially with regards to medical projects and research that aim to create healthy and safe community environment.

The importance of these studies is represented in the fact that no new drug can be approved unless it is correspondent to the reference drug. This will offer local drugs as substitution for the foreign drugs with the former being just as excellent in quality but, also, at the lowest prices.

NBU is the first of its kind in Palestine and one of few specialized centers in the Arab World concerned with ‎conducting pharmaceutical studies in Palestine.‎

The meeting was also attended by Dr. Amjad Ezz Eddin, Director of NBU, Dr. Raeda Mustafa, Head of Technical and Regulatory Department and Mr. Khaled Husseini, PR Director as well as Pharm.D. Zain Abedin Zanoun from Sama Company.
