On Saturday, May 4, 2019 An-Najah National University held the second An-Najah TEDx Talks themed: "Behind the Scenes" to celebrate ideas worth spreading.


The event was sponsored by Trust International Insurance Company and An-Najah Broadcasting Channel (NBC).

The event preparatory committee from An-Najah included Miss Suheir Al Saleh, coordinator of the Competency Development Unit, Miss Fatima Sayeh from the Office of International Development and External Affairs, Dr. Monther Dwaikat from the Building Engineering Department and Miss Hadeel Haddadeh, the director of the Public Relations Department.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks videos, and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations). It is worth mentioning that An-Najah hosted its first TEDx event in 2016.

This year event hosted ten speakers of different backgrounds and included a large audience of notable figures such as the keynote speaker Dr. Kherieh Rassas, Vice President of International Development and External Affairs and Mr. Ziad Lubbadeh, Director of Trust-Nablus Branch as well as faculty deans, institution representatives and university students.

Dr. Rassas welcomed the attendees to this event which opened the eyes to elite influential entrepreneurs who challenged all difficulties and achieved success in different areas.

The speakers included Aref Husseini, an electrical engineer, physicist and Novelist from Jerusalem and founder of Al-Nayzak organization for scientific innovation in Palestine, Mrs. Samar Tete, an aspiring mother, wife and successful female entrepreneur who went against all odds to go after her dreams at the age of 42. She is the founder and owner of Dina Events, which is Palestine’s first and premier wedding and event planning company. Mr. Sa'ed Karazon, a media person, social entrepreneur and the founder of the Palestinian organization "Taghyeer".

The speakers also included Dr. Ahmed Bassalat; a Teaching Assistant at the Physics Department, researcher at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) and co-founder of the Winter School of High Energy Physics in Palestine and Amal Sadaqa, a senior student, majoring in Public Relations and Communication at An-Najah, who despite of her disability managed to become the top student of her department. She is also a literary writer who has developed a deep appreciation for the Arabic language.

Dr. Ismael Warrad was also one of the speakers. He is a distinguished full time professor at An-Najah National University who has published more than 300 scientific papers and 5 patents. Another speaker is Dr. Sanaa Alsarghali, the first Palestinian female holding a PhD in Constitutional Law in Palestine from Lancaster University and currently the only female Assistant Professor at An-Najah law school.

The event also included speakers Muhannad Abu Arafeh, a fourth year Med-Student at An-Najah who survived a rare type of cancer, a member of the International Federation of Medical Students Association, and he represented Palestine in the United Nations General Assembly in Africa in 2017. Mrs. Ola Awad, the President of the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) and the former President of the International Association of Official Statistics (IAOS) 2015 -2017 and finally Dr. Saida Affouneh, an associate professor, the founder and director of the E-Learning Center (ELC) and the Dean of the Faculty of Education and Teacher Training at An-Najah.

The event also included two performances. A hip-hop dance by "Stereo 48", and a singing session by Mr. Nasser Asmar.

The event was concluded with Prof. Maher Natsheh, Acting President of An-Najah's final remarks who paid tribute to the event organizers and thanked the speakers for sharing their success stories with An-Najah community and the event sponsors.

In turn, Mr. Lubbadeh from Trust International Insurance Company, stressed the importance of the partnership between An-Najah and Trust, and commended the university for its successful event.
