Representative of the Republic of Poland to Palestine Visits An-Najah
On Tuesday, February 26, 2019, the Representative of the Republic of Poland to Palestine, Dr. Aleksandra Bukowska-McCabe, visited An-Najah University. She met with Prof. Maher Natsheh, Acting President of An-Najah to discuss possible means of cooperation.
The delegation was received by Dr. Mohammad Al-Amleh, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Rasha Khayyat, Scholarships Coordinator at An-Najah, Dr. Basil Mansour, Head of the Employees Union, Mr. Mohammed Kubari, Acting Director of the Public Relations Department, Mr. Rafique Gangat, Dr. Shirin Shawer and Ms. Aya Abdulwahhab from the International Office.
The visit focused on learning more about An-Najah and discussing possible means of mutual cooperation between the Government of Poland and An-Najah National University in the realms of student and staff scholarship programmes and joint exchange programmes in a way that serves both parties.
Prof. Natsheh welcomed the delegation and briefed them on An-Najah’s history, students, staff, academic programmes and campuses. He explained in detail the political and financial obstacles that higher education in Palestine faces, in terms of attracting international students and staff to Palestinian universities. He also talked about the Arabic for Non-Native Speakers Institute at An-Najah.
In addition, he talked about the cooperation agreements the University has with a number of European universities, in terms of developing joint research projects and boosting student and staff exchange programmes. He expressed his interest in developing more relations with universities in Poland, upgrading academic and research exchanges, as well as student exchanges, and suggested having native speakers teach Polish at An-Najah.
Finally, Prof. Natsheh talked about the University's academic achievements, most important of which is being ranked first in Palestine according to Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, and referred to the European Union Projects which An-Najah participates in, such as the Erasmus+ programme.
In turn, Dr. Bukowska thanked An-Najah for welcoming her and for the hospitability in which she was received. She also stressed the importance of academic cooperation between Palestine and Poland and mentioned that she is ready to offer support for staff and students scholarships and joint research production.
Dr. Bukowska was impressed with the Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology and the Arabic for Non-Native Speakers Institute at An-Najah and she assured Dr. Maher that she would encourage universities in Poland to cooperate in research, exchanges and scholarships with An-Najah.
