Dr. Ahmad Ghadieh, Head of Graduate Studies Department for ‎Humanities and staff member at the Geography Department of An-Najah ‎University, has recently participated in the UN Climate Change ‎Conference (COP24) which was held in Katowice, Poland, from 2nd ‎December-14th December,2018.‎

‎ The conference was attended by 20 thousand people from 190 countries, ‎including politicians, representatives of non-governmental organizations, ‎scientific community and business sector. Palestine was represented by H. ‎E. Minister of Environmental Quality Authority, Eng. Adalah Al Attirah, ‎the Palestinian ambassador to Poland, the Chairman of the National ‎Committee on Climate Change of Palestine and representatives of the ‎private sector.‎

The conference aimed at adopting a “robust” set of implementing ‎guidelines for the landmark 2015 Paris Agreement, aimed at keeping ‎global warming well below 2°C compared to pre-industrial levels. It also ‎included a number of high-level events, mandated events, action events ‎and roundtables.‎

Dr. Ghadieh who is a member of the National Committee on Climate ‎Change and the Palestinian Coalition for Climate Justice presented a ‎research paper on the climate in Palestine and the role and impact of the ‎Israeli occupation on climate change in the West Bank through its illegal ‎settlement activities in all their forms.‎
