An-Najah Professor Participates in the UN Climate Change Conference (COP24) in Poland
Dr. Ahmad Ghadieh, Head of Graduate Studies Department for Humanities and staff member at the Geography Department of An-Najah University, has recently participated in the UN Climate Change Conference (COP24) which was held in Katowice, Poland, from 2nd December-14th December,2018.
The conference was attended by 20 thousand people from 190 countries, including politicians, representatives of non-governmental organizations, scientific community and business sector. Palestine was represented by H. E. Minister of Environmental Quality Authority, Eng. Adalah Al Attirah, the Palestinian ambassador to Poland, the Chairman of the National Committee on Climate Change of Palestine and representatives of the private sector.
The conference aimed at adopting a “robust” set of implementing guidelines for the landmark 2015 Paris Agreement, aimed at keeping global warming well below 2°C compared to pre-industrial levels. It also included a number of high-level events, mandated events, action events and roundtables.
Dr. Ghadieh who is a member of the National Committee on Climate Change and the Palestinian Coalition for Climate Justice presented a research paper on the climate in Palestine and the role and impact of the Israeli occupation on climate change in the West Bank through its illegal settlement activities in all their forms.
