An-Najah's International Office's Debate Society Initiates the 'Education through Debate' Workshop for Palestinian Educators
An-Najah's Office of International Development and External Affair’s Debate Society has recently held a workshop titled: ‘Education through Debate’.
The workshop introduced 55 secondary and university level educators within Palestine to the format of competitive debate and to provide them with the educational tools to integrate debate activities within their classrooms.
The training included an introduction to debate motions and how to use them for different academic subjects, the components of a strong argument and how to make them and refutations and points of information.
The workshop concluded steps to introduce debate activities into the classroom and suggested debate activities teachers can use.
NNUDS was establish in 2017 at An-Najah National University and is one of the only English and Arabic language competitive debate programmes in Palestine. The society organizes regular English debate trainings throughout the academic semester and most recently completed its second annual International Palestine Open Debate Championship which brought over 15 international debate experts and 56 debaters together for a three day tournament and training. In July, 2018 NNUDS sent part of the very first debate team to reprsent Palestine at the European Universities Debate Championship (EUDC) and received official recognition as a national debate team. In December, NNUDS plans to send the first debate team to represent Palestine at the World Universities Debate Championship (WUDC), the largest academic and debate event in the world.
