On Thursday, September 6th, 2018, Professor Maher Natsheh, Acting President of An-Najah hosted at his office a delegation from Stavanger University in Norway headed by Prof. Dag HusebØ, Vice-Rector at the University of Stavanger.


The delegation included academics and professors from Stavanger University and representatives from the Municipality of Stavanger and was accompanied with Engineer Naseer Arafat, Director of Nablus Committee Association.

The visit aimed at strengthening the cooperation and academic and cultural exchange between An-Najah and Stavanger University in terms of digital learning, languages, cultural studies, fine arts, education and humanities. It also aimed at expanding mobility cooperation in other fields. An MOU was also signed by the two universities to renew the cooperation.

Prof. Natsheh welcomed the guests and briefed them on An-Najah’s history, academic programmes and students, and explained the obstacles that encounter higher education in Palestine. He also talked about the cooperation agreements the University has with a number of European and American universities, in terms of developing joint research projects and boosting student and staff exchange programmes.

Prof. Natsheh also welcomed developing more relations with the University of Stavanger, upgrading academic and research exchanges, as well as student and academic exchange and talked about An-Najah’s interest in having native speakers of Norwegian teach the language at An-Najah.

He thanked the delegation for keeping in touch with the University and commended the Norwegian Friendship Association's role in supporting An-Najah on different levels.

Finally, he talked about the University's academic achievements, most important of which is being ranked the 1st Palestinian university, according to Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, and obtaining ABET accreditation for nine engineering programmes.

The head of the delegation in turn expressed his delight for being at An-Najah, stressed the importance of the cooperation between both universities, and extended his thanks to An-Najah staff for the hospitality with which the delegation was received. He also wished that the visit would result in new academic cooperation in different educational areas.

The delegation then headed to the Old Campus library where they met with a number of An-Najah professors to explore academic cooperation opportunities, and discuss their similar research interests. They also had a meeting with previous exchange students who were part of pervious cultural and academic exchange programmes between An-Najah and Stavanger University. The students talked about their experience at Stavanger University and discussed the challenges they faced during their visit.
