On Tuesday, June 26, 2018, the Project Management Unit (PMU) of An-Najah National University, directed by Dr. Mohammad Najjar, organized the "UNIMED meets Palestinian universities" Conference at the Faculty of Law auditorium in the New Campus.


The conference aimed at presenting UNIMED* activities, allowing the universities members of the network to meet each other and offering development plans among universities regarding student and staff exchange and improving the educational institutions infrastructure.

On behalf of the University Acting President, Dr. Nidal Dwikat, Deputy President for Planning, Development and Quality Assurance inaugurated the opening ceremony.

Mr. Marcello SCALISI, UNIMED Director talked about the fruitful cooperation with the Palestinian universities. He mentioned that the cooperation aims to exchange knowledge, research and training in the Euro-Mediterranean region.

After the inauguration ceremony, a group of participating researchers gave presentations on their experience in UNIMED through a number of projects.

The conference included three sessions titled: "Improving Governance Practices at Palestinian Higher Education Institutions: the case of UniGov project"," Opening up Education in South-Mediterranean countries: the experience of OpenMed project " and "UNIMED presents itself: networking activities, what we do and how we work" respectively.

At the end of the conference, an open discussion session was held to exchange around opportunities for Euro-Mediterranean cooperation and the cooperation within UNIMED network.

Notes:

* UNIMED - Mediterranean Universities Union- is an association that brings together 108 universities from 23 Mediterranean countries and whose aim is to strengthen cooperation, research and training in the Euro-Mediterranean region. With eleven-member universities, Palestine is the more represented country in UNIMED from the Southern Mediterranean shore and has a seat on the Board of Directors.

The conference was also attended by Dr. Maher Abu Zant, Vice President for Administrative Affairs and representatives from UNIMED, Palestinian and European parenting universities and the Ministry of Education and higher education as well as other notable guests and attendees.
