Lithuanian Representative to Palestine Visits An-Najah
On Tuesday, April 10th, 2018, the Lithuanian Representative to Palestine, the Honorable Mr. Arturas Gailiunas, visited An-Najah National University. He met with Prof. Maher Natsheh, Acting President of An-Najah and Dr. Kherieh Rassas, Vice President for International Development and External Affairs to discuss possible cooperation opportunities.
Prof. Natsheh welcomed the guest and introduced him to An-Najah's academic programmes, the accreditations it has obtained and its considerable role in serving the higher education sector in Palestine, which has made An-Najah one of the top universities in the Arab world.
Prof. Natsheh also briefed Mr. Gailiunas on the cooperative partnerships that An-Najah has established with many universities around the world, expressing his interest in expanding these partnerships to include Lithuanian Universities and thanking the Representative for his support in this matter.
In turn, Mr. Gailiunas thanked An-Najah for hosting him and for the hospitability in which he was received. He also praised the university's great achievements in all fields despite all the obstacles and the challenges. He stressed the fact that An-Najah's perseverance and forward thinking approach enabled it to be one of the leading institutions in the country.
After the meeting, and through coordination with Dr. Hassan Ayoub, Head of the Political Sciences Department, Mr. Gailiunas gave a lecture about the democratic challenges in the Republic of Lithuania and the Balkans, through which he discussed the similarities between his country's struggle for independence and the current Palestinian situation.
During his visit to An-Najah, the Lithuanian Representative was given a tour of An-Najah’s New Campus where he visited the Faculty of Fine Arts, the Media Centre and the library.
At the end of the visit, Prof. Natsheh and Dr. Rassas presented the Representative with a souvenir that was handmade by the university's Fine Arts students.
