On Wednesday, March 14th, 2018, the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences in cooperation with the Palestinian Ministry of Health and Juzoor for Health and Social Development organized a workshop on improving health care clinics that deal with gender based violence (GBV).


The workshop is part of a research project that aims to enhance the response of primary health care clinics that deal with GBV.

The workshop was moderated by Dr. Abdulsalam Khayyat, staff member at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. Ms. Maha Awwad, Director of Women's Health at the Ministry of Health welcomed the attendees and briefed them on the Ministry's work regarding GBV.

Dr. Amira Shaheen, Project Coordinator talked about the project goals and explained the facilitators and obstacles that face primary health care providers based on the primary outcome of the project's first phase. She also exhibited the project's expected outcomes that will improve women and children's health.

Juzoor in turn gave a presentation on the training material that will be offered to heath care providers soon.

It is worth mentioning that An-Najah won last year research grant which aimed at improving the response of primary health care clinics to GBV by The General Medical Council in the U.K. The project will be completed over two years and lead by An-Najah in partnership with Juzoor.

The workshop was also attended by representatives of several local and international institutions such as the Ministry of Women's Affairs, the Ministry of Social Development, a number of health service providers in the two primary health care clinics where the intervention is implemented, Women's Centre for Legal Aid and Counselling (WCLAC), the UNRWA, UN Women and the United Nations Population Fund.
