On Sunday, October 8th, 2017, An-Najah received a delegation from Erasmus+ represented by Dr. Nidal Jayyousi, the representative of TEMPUS programme in the European Union and Ms. Rana Qaimari, NEO Programme Officer in Palestine to see the progress made on the Improving Governance Practices and Palestinian Higher Education Institutions (UniGov) project.


The delegation met with Dr. Mohammad El-Amleh, Vice President for Academic Affairs and the project teamwork which includes Dr. Mohammad Najjar, Director of Project Management and Consulting Unit (PMCU); Dr. Nidal Dwaikat, President's Assistant for Planning, Development and Quality Affairs; Dr. Moayad Hattab, Dean of the Faculty of Law and Dr. Rani Shahwan, Director of the Continuing Education Unit as well as representatives of the project's participating universities.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Al-Amleh welcomed the delegation and stressed the importance of the cooperation projects between the Palestinian universities that offer benefits to the Palestinian community.

Dr. Najjar talked about the importance of the cooperation with the EU as it develops the staff competency and upgrades the University status. He added that the project will address weaknesses in the existing governance systems across HEIs in Palestine. By establishing a comparative study with European benchmark universities, UniGov aims to establish a common governance framework and promote the adoption of innovative practices to improve university governance in Palestine.  

In turn, Dr. Jayyousi said that the meeting aims to display the project's work plans and their implementation methods.

He also commended the efforts made by the project organizers and hoped to expand the cooperation through further joint projects.

It is worth mentioning that UniGov is a project of international cooperation selected for co-financing under the Erasmus + Capacity Building programme in Higher Education during the period 15 October 2016 - 14 October 2019. The project is run by An-Najah National University represented by Dr. Kherieh Rassas, Vice President for International Development and External Affairs at An-Najah and is the first of its type in Palestine.
