On Tuesday, August 1st, 2017, the American Corner Nablus with Ashtar Theatre in cooperation with the Faculty of Educational Sciences and Teacher Training at An-Najah and the Nablus Directorate of Education held a closing ceremony for the Youth Drama Camp.


The ceremony began with opening remarks by the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Mohammed Al Amleh, Nablus Director of Education, Dr. Azmi Balawneh and Mr. Edward Muallem, Director of Ashtar Theatre.

Participants who completed the training program engaged in improvisational theatre sports covering a variety of theatre activities in two teams and the audience voted on the best performances.  In conclusion, students received certificates for their participation.

Participants who completed the camp will have the opportunity to participate in a theatre festival in Ramallah in September.

Also in attendance was the President’s Assistant of Community Affairs, Dr. Sami Al Kilani; the Vice President of Administrative Affairs, Dr. Maher Abu Zant; the Dean of the Faculty of Educational Sciences and Teacher Training, Dr. Alia Assali; MS Samar Qadaah, the Directorate of Education and MS Alia Gilbrecht of An-Najah’s International Office’s American Corner Nablus.

The Youth Drama Camp was the culmination of 30 hours of drama training for students from Binat Rafedia Girls School, Al Makfeeya Boys School, Kamal Jimblat and Yaser Arafat schools within the Nablus Governorate.  The training was done through the methodology of the theatre of the oppressed, using theatre techniques and games to prepare participants for social change and action.  The training focused on enhancing students' leadership skills, team building, trust, democracy building and empathy building.
