Zajel Concludes Its International Camp on Students’ Skills Development
The International Youth Exchange Programme (Zajel) of the Public Relations Department at An-Najah has recently concluded the activities of its July international camp on students’ skills development.
The camp was over two weeks and included international volunteers from the U.S, the U.K, Finland, Canada, Spain and Portugal as well as 180 students from An-Najah.
Eleven international volunteers gave training workshops on English speaking skills, public speaking, learning English through songs, leadership skills, management, communication skills and practicing debates in English.
The camp also included a series of field trips to introduce the international volunteers to Palestine’s history, culture and traditions. The volunteers visited Hebron, Bethlehem, Jenin, Qalqilya and Rawabi city in addition to the old city of Arraba, Nablus, Hebron, Bethlehem, Beit Jala and Beit Sahour.
The international volunteers were also given introductory lectures on water, energy, environment and the political situation in Palestine.
In addition, they visited the evacuated settlements in Jenin District, the Church of Burqin and the village of Battir and Banksy Museum and attended the Kites Festival in Burin Village. Trips were also organized to the Bedouin tents and a night was spent there. Some other visits were organized to the ethnically cleansed villages and former detention camps, and the volunteers joined wedding parties in different places.
Graduate Huda Jarrar, the camp coordinator talked about the camp role in changing the stereotyped image of Palestinians and the Palestinian cause. She added that the camp introduced the international volunteers to Palestine’s heritage and history and promoted the cultural exchange between the Palestinian students and the international volunteers.
