On Monday, April 17th, 2017, An-Najah National University in cooperation with the SESAME project national committee organized the 1st introductory workshop on *SESAME Project – Jordan at the Korean Palestinian IT Institute of Excellence conference room in the New Campus.


Dr. Ahmed Bassalat, who is a staff member at the Physics Department and member of the project's national committee, introduced the attendees to SESAME and its evolution. He talked about the importance of the workshop in directing researchers to what can be done through SESAME and encouraging graduate students to enroll in related programmes. He added that the workshop also aims at promoting scientific research among faculties, expanding research cooperation between An-Najah and the Arab and international universities and forming specialized research groups to improve research methods and linking those groups with international ones to do joint research.

The workshop was moderated by both Dr. Bassalat and Dr. Hadeel Abu Rub, who is also a staff member at the Physics Department.

*SESAME (Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East) is a “third-generation” synchrotron light source under construction in Allan, Jordan. It is a cooperative venture by scientists and governments of the region set up on the model of CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research).
