On Wednesday, October 5th, 2016, the American Corner Nablus of the International Office at An-Najah organized a seminar on studying in the U.S at the library’s conference room in the Old Campus.


The seminar was moderated by Mr. Jason Ullner, Political Officer at the U.S Consulate General Jerusalem and was attended by Dr. Nabil Alawi and Dr. Ekrema Shhab from the English Department; Ms Alia Gilbrecht, American Corner Nablus Coordinator; Ms Christen Phaneuf and Ms Dalal Radwan from the International Office and Ms Shatha Jararaa from the Public Relations Department at An-Najah as well as a group of the English Department students.

At the beginning, Mr. Ullner introduced himself and talked about the educational systems in the U.S and the challenges that students might encounter continuing their higher education there.

He also talked about his rich experience in the Middle East especially in Iraq and Palestine and his work as an intermediary between those countries and Washington DC.

He then discussed with the students several issues most important of which are the U.S economy, globalization, democracy and media in addition to other issues.

He went on to talk about the Palestinian dream in having an independent state and economy and having a safe place to live in and travel freely.

Mr. Ullner described the Palestinian people as outstanding and commended the high quality of higher education in the region.

At the end, Mr. Ullner answered students’ questions on the topics.

Notes:

Mr. Ullner has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Northwestern University and a Juris Doctor and Masters of Law in International and Comparative Legal Studies from Duke University.
