The visit aims at discussing implementation of a joint cooperation project with An-Najah’s Civil and Urban Planning Departments students. The project tackles transportation and urban planning in Palestine and provides proposals to solve traffic and transportation problems in both Nablus and Ramallah.

The delegation first met with Professor Maher Natsheh, Acting President of An-Najah at his office who welcomed them and stressed the importance of academic cooperation between An-Najah and the Belgian universities.

Prof. Natsheh briefed the guests on An-Najah history, academic level, research development and the services it offers to the Palestinian community. He also said that the university will facilitate the delegation’s mission and will offer support to the joint project as it will contribute to solve transportation problems in Nablus and Ramallah and will involve the university students in the project work.

In turn, the delegation members talked about the project’s content which is supported by the Brussels-Capital Region and aims at reinforcing collaboration between Palestinian and Belgian students and promoting professional and academic exchange in terms of transportation and urban planning.

The project will include a number of lectures, workshops and field trips in addition to meetings with stakeholders from Nablus and Ramallah.

The meeting was also attended by Dr. Sameer Abu Eisheh from the Civil Engineering Department and Dr. Ali Abdul Hameed, Head of the Urban Planning Engineering Department at An-Najah.

The project is expected to be implemented over two phases; the first during the delegation visit and the second at the end of November, 2016.
