On Tuesday, May 24th, 2015 An-Najah National University celebrated the graduation ceremony for the 4th cohort of students from the School of Oriental and African Studies SOAS-University of London students from the Arabic for Non-Native Speakers Programme.


The ceremony was held at the Zafer Al-Masri Auditorium in the Old Campus and was attended by Dr. Mohammed El-Amleh, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Sabri Naser, Vice President for Administrative Affairs; Dr. Abdul Khaliq Issa, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities; Mr. Moussa Abu Dayeh, Dean of Students’ Affairs at An-Najah and Mr. Mohammed Kubari, Director of the British Council in Nablus.

Dr. Raed Abdulraheem, Programme Coordinator welcomed the attendance and spoke of the big progress the programme has made in its four years and expressed his hope for further success and participation.

Professor Maher Natsheh, Acting President of An-Najah congratulated the graduates stressing the significance of the academic cooperation with London University and commended this year graduates’ performance in Arabic. He talked about the academic progress made on the unit including signing a number of MOUs with Japanese institutions and Turkish universities as well as the National Technical University of Athens agreement on the Standardized Test of Arabic Proficiency in Speakers of Other Languages which will be supervised by An-Najah.

Graduate Melli expressed her gratitude to An-Najah and the people of Palestine and talked about her experience at the university. She stated that the programme has developed her knowledge of the Arabic language as well as the Palestinian culture and cause.

The programme graduates recited two poems from the Arabic literature on Palestine and played a video they made on their experience in Palestine and their activities outside campus. They also recited a song of Palestinian folklore.

The ceremony was concluded by awarding the students with their certificates by Dr. El-Amleh, Dr. Naser, Dr. Issa and Mr. Kubari.

Notes:

The Arabic for Non-Native Speakers Programme was established in 2012 and aims at introducing the world to the Arabic language and Palestinian cause and culture. It also aims at abolishing the stereotyped image of the Arab and Islamic world. It offers various programmes such as the levels and the Arabic literature. It consists of 36 credit hours over one year that aim at increasing exposure to the Arabic language and Arab societies, with particular attention and emphasis on Palestine.
